Samsung Washer DC Error Code: Load Imbalance Diagnosis

Samsung washer DC means the unit detected an unbalanced load during spin. Usually fixed by redistributing or leveling, but sometimes points to suspension or sensor failure.

The DC error on a Samsung washer means the unit detected an off-balance load during spin and stopped to protect itself from walking, banging, or shaking apart. On most calls, this resolves with a load redistribution or a leveling adjustment — but if it keeps coming back, it points to suspension or sensor hardware that needs service.

    What the code actually means

Samsung washers use an accelerometer-based imbalance sensor (or, on older models, a mechanical balance ring) to detect drum wobble during ramp-up to spin. If the drum exceeds a threshold of side-to-side movement, the control board pauses spin, attempts to redistribute, and — if the imbalance persists — throws the DC code and halts the cycle.

    DIY checks (try these first)

    1. Redistribute the load

Open the door and untangle clothes. Single heavy items (bath mats, comforters, jeans) are the most common cause of DC errors — wash them with a few lighter items to balance the drum.

    2. Check load size

Both overloaded and under-loaded drums can throw DC. For a typical Samsung front-load, aim for a load that fills the drum to about 75–80% loosely.

    3. Level the washer

A washer that isn't level will throw DC even with a perfectly balanced load. Use a bubble level on top of the cabinet. Adjust the front feet by turning them in or out; the rear feet are usually self-leveling but should still firmly contact the floor. Re-tighten the lock nuts.

    4. Confirm the shipping bolts are removed

If the washer was recently moved or installed, the shipping bolts at the back of the cabinet must be removed. Leaving them in causes immediate and persistent DC errors.

    When it's a hardware fault

Worn suspension rods or shock absorbers

Front-load Samsung washers use four shock absorbers and a suspension assembly to dampen drum movement. After 6–10 years, the dampers lose stiffness and even a balanced load will produce excessive drum movement. Symptom: DC errors that don't resolve with redistribution, plus visibly more drum wobble during the high-spin portion.

Failed imbalance sensor or main board

Less common. If suspension is in good shape and the unit is level, the imbalance sensor (or, on integrated models, the main control board) may be reporting false imbalance. Replace only after suspension is ruled out.

    Broken concrete weight

Rare, but Samsung front-loaders use a concrete counter-weight bolted to the outer tub. If the weight cracks (often from rough transport), it shifts and induces imbalance on every spin.

    Typical Bay Area repair costs

    • Leveling adjustment + diagnosis: $89 diagnostic, often resolved on the spot
    • Shock absorber set replacement (front-load): $260–$420
    • Suspension rod set (top-load): $260–$420
    • Imbalance sensor / hall sensor: $200–$320
    • Concrete counter-weight: $280–$420
