Oven and range repair pricing varies by fuel type and by whether the unit is freestanding, slide-in, or a built-in wall oven. Here's what we typically charge in the Bay Area.
Typical Bay Area oven repair ranges
- Bake element (electric): $180–$280
- Broil element (electric): $180–$280
- Oven igniter (gas): $220–$340
- Gas safety valve: $260–$420
- Oven thermostat / temperature sensor: $200–$320
- Door hinges: $220–$340
- Door gasket: $180–$280
- Door glass / inner panel: $260–$480 depending on availability
- Control board / clock assembly: $320–$520
- Surface burner igniter (gas range): $160–$240
- Surface element (electric range): $180–$280
- Convection fan motor: $260–$420
What drives the price
- Built-in wall ovens: require careful removal from the cabinet for many internal repairs, adding 45–60 minutes of labor.
- Slide-in vs. freestanding ranges: slide-ins need adjacent counter and trim protection.
- Brand tier: Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Miele, Gaggenau, and La Cornue parts run substantially higher than mass-market.
- Double ovens: two cavities = two thermostats, two elements, sometimes two control boards.
- Self-clean damage: the self-clean cycle is notorious for damaging control boards, door latches, and fuses. Repairs from self-clean failures often involve multiple parts.
Repair vs. replace
Ovens commonly last 13–17 years. Most repairs are worth doing on units under 12 years old. High-end built-in ovens (Wolf, Miele, Sub-Zero/Wolf, Gaggenau) are almost always worth repairing because the replacement and re-install cost is in the $4,000–$10,000+ range.
